President Demetris Christofias of Cyprus reaffirmed his country's support to China on the Taiwan and Tibet issues Friday, saying Cyprus adheres firmly to the one-China policy.
He made the remarks while receiving a delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC), headed by Lu Hao, a member of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Gansu Provincial Committee.
Christofias, who has just stepped down as secretary-general of the left-wing Progressive Party of the Working People of Cyprus (Akel), pledged to further boost the friendly relationship between the two parties and countries.
He also lauded the CPC as being the "locomotive" of a fast developing China.
The Cypriot president blamed some western powers for advocating the "independence of Tibet" and reaffirmed Cyprus' commitment to the one-China policy.
The CPC delegation is visiting Cyprus at the invitation of Akel, Cyprus' ruling party, after attending the 18th plenary session of the Communist Party of Greece in Athens.
