World media following the two ongoing political conferences in Beijing are speaking highly of the work the Chinese government has done to improve the livelihoods of its people.

The two conferences are the Second Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) and the Second Session of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

The U.S. Qiaobao in Chinese said China has practiced thrift in handling all affairs of the NPC and the CPPCC, which shows determination and confidence of its government and people to battle the ravaging economic crisis.

Quoting Premier Wen Jiabao, the paper said China must channel government investment to areas where it best counteracts the effects of the global financial crisis and to weak areas in economic and social development in a bid to make every penny count, adding that the statement reflects the interest of the Chinese people.

The Paris-based Nouvelles d' Europe, the biggest Chinese newspaper in Europe, published a commentary saying the Chinese government has presented the draft budget for 2009 in a clear way and explained in detail where the money is from and will go.

The draft budget has given particular attention to such fields as agriculture, education, health care and welfare that people care most, the commentary added.

The U.S. Chinese Biz News quoted the work report of Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC as saying that the committee will improve supervision over issues affecting people's well-being.

The Japanese business daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun also quoted Wu Bangguo as saying that China is to enforce the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and will never simply copy the system of Western countries or introduce a system of multiple parties holding office in rotation, a system with the separation of the three powers or a bicameral system.

Wu's statement showed that China has put a priority on social stability amid a global economic slowdown, said the newspaper.

The Italian news agency Ansa hailed China's massive stimulus package, noting that it has already begun to take effect.

According to analysts the four-trillion-yuan (586 billion U.S. dollars) stimulus package will enable China to shed off the economic turmoil sooner than other countries.

France's newspaper Le Figaro said the 586 billion dollar stimulus package reflected the Chinese government's optimism and confidence in fending off the global economic crisis and the 8 percent economic growth promised by Wen showed that Chinese leaders are holding an active view about the country's economic prospect.

The Turkish newspaper VATAN said China stressed domestic demand and sustainable development in stimulating growth amid the unfolding global economic development. China adjusted its macro control policy to cope with the changing market, which is worth learning, it added.
