Vietnamese Prime Minister Nugyen Tan Dung met with Chen Bingde, chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), here on Tuesday.

Chen is on an official goodwill visit to Vietnam. He met with Vietnamese Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan on Monday.

During the meeting with the Chinese military official, Dung recalled the great support and assistance given by China in Vietnam's wars against French and American invaders, and said Vietnamese government and people will never forget it.

Dung said over the past years, through joint efforts, Vietnam and China have maintained frequent high-level exchanges and contacts, reached important consensus and established the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

The Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnamese government and Vietnamese people would like to continue strengthening friendly cooperative relations with their counterparts in China, said Dung.

Regarding some issues on bilateral relations left from history, Dung said he believed that the two parties and two peoples have the wisdom and capability to come to proper solutions to deal with them.

During the meeting with Chen, Doan said the development of friendly cooperative relations between the two countries and two armies serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples and is conducive to the regional peace and stability.

Doan said the younger generations of the two countries should carry on the traditional friendship of the two countries.

For his part, Chen expressed his admiration for Vietnamese achievements in their innovation and open-up cause. He also expressed his confidence on expanding consensus and enhancing cooperation between the two peoples and two armies.

Chinese Communist Party, people and army are sincere and reliable friends and brothers of the Vietnamese Communist Party, people and the Vietnamese People's Army (VPA), said Chen.

China would like to continue strengthening mutual trust with Vietnamese army, expanding friendly exchanges, deepening pragmatic cooperation and making efforts to advance further development of the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, said Chen.

Vietnam is the second leg of Chen's three-Asian-nation tour. After his visits to Myanmar and Vietnam, he will proceed to South Korea.
