China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Friday pledged to step up parliamentary exchanges between China and Austria.

Meeting visiting Austrian Federal Council Harald Reisenberger, Jia, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, said the CPPCC was ready to work closely with the Austrian parliament to promote bilateral ties.

Jia said that since the two forged diplomatic relations in 1951,they had shared broad common interests and had similar stances on many international issues.

"China is willing to work with the Austrian side to promote the ties between the two nations and two parliaments," Jia told Reisenberger.

Reisenberger said Austria highly valued its relations with China and would continue to adhere to the one-China policy.

He said the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples laid a solid foundation for the continuous development of relations.

Reisenberger is visiting at the invitation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
