China's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday praised the role of the United Nations' Alliance of Civilizations in promoting dialogue and understanding among cultures and civilizations.
Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told a regular press conference that China was willing to strengthen cultural exchanges with all countries on the basis of equality and mutual respect and to cooperate for human progress.
Turkey, which is co-chairing the Alliance of Civilizations initiative with Spain, is hosting the second forum on April 6 and 7 in Istanbul with the participation of six heads of state and 36 foreign ministers. Chinese Ambassador to Turkey Gong Xiaosheng attended the forum.
Launched in 2005, the Alliance of Civilizations seeks to address tensions across cultural divides that threaten to inflame existing political conflicts or trigger new ones.
