Vietnam and China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) can strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields in a bid to promote the two sides' economic and trade relations to a higher level, said visiting Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung here on Tuesday.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister made the remark when delivering a speech at the opening ceremony of the Vietnam-Macao Business Forum held here on Tuesday.
The two sides' economic and trade exchange has not reached its full potential, although positive results have been achieved in recent years, said Nguyen. He also expressed his hope that the two sides can push for more cooperation in fields such as investment, trade and tourism.
According to the prime minister, the two sides saw their bilateral trade volume reached 35 million U.S. dollars in 2008, while the current worth of Macao's eight investment projects in Vietnam amounts to 32 million dollars.
The Macao SAR government has striven to develop Macao into a regional recreation center with several service platforms so as to provide a wide range of commercial services, such as conventions, exhibitions, trading, and banking etc., to the economies in the region, said the SAR's Secretary for Economy and Finance Tam Pak Yuen.
Therefore, "I am happy to see that we have the chance to explore and discuss the collaboration between Vietnam and Macao. The Forum will definitely build a concrete foundation for further co-operation," said Tam.
During his first ever official visit to the SAR, the Vietnamese Prime Minister also met with the SAR's Chief Executive Ho Hau Wah. He and other Vietnamese officials left for Vietnam later today after completing their visit here.
