The "International University Education Fund for Overseas Students" was recently launched in Beijing. This year, for the first time, the fund is donating 3 million yuan in scholarships and student grants to outstanding students from financially-struggling households who are excellent in both personal character and academic performance.
The International University Education Fund for Overseas Students was jointly initiated by the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development (CFFPD) and the Education Foundation Australia. The fund will be used to pay for students' expenses when they study overseas.
The fund's administrative committee recently started to screen underprivileged students of good character and with good academic performance who are preparing to go abroad for study. An official with the CFFPD said that in the initial stage, it will rely on provincial and municipal education commissions, as well as schools, to recommend students. In the later stage, schools can directly recommend qualified students to the fund's administrative committee.
