Finnish President Tarja Halonen met with visiting General Guo Boxiong, vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission, and discussed with him bilateral issues of common concern in Helsinki Wednesday.
During the meeting, Halonen said Finland and China have maintained traditional relations of friendly cooperation, and Finland has all along given priority to China in its foreign policy.
She said relations between the two countries have grown smoothly and their bilateral cooperation has great potential. Finland wishes to join hands with China to enhance its ties with China and the ties between the EU and China.
Guo expressed appreciation of Halonen's efforts to promote Sino-Finnish and China-EU relations. He noted that Finland is one of the first developed countries to forge diplomatic ties with China, and the first Western nation to sign bilateral trade agreement with China.
Their bilateral relations have transcended difference in ideology and social system, as their cooperation is broadening and developing in depth, he said.
Guo said China considers Finland a reliable friend, and is ready to further advance the relations between the two nations and their armed forces on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. Source:Xinhua
