Asian media should strive to win discourse power in world opinions, making more "Asian voices" heard, said Wang Chen, minister in charge of China's State Council Information Office, at an international conference held in Macao on Monday.

The media of Asia should endeavor to eliminate the phenomenon of developing countries being treated unfairly in world opinions, and make joint effort to maintain and safeguard these countries' images and interests, said Wang, when addressing the Asia Media Summit 2009, which was unveiled in Macao on Monday.

To achieve the goal, Asian nations need to strengthen news exchanges and media cooperation, making more mutual news reports, he said.

As for Chinese media, Wang pointed out that they have established specific exchange relations with media in some Asian nations. "We will invite more reporters, editors, columnists and the like from various Asian countries to visit China, while encouraging more Chinese media and reporters to cover news events in these Asian countries."

Organized by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development, the two-day summit was attended by over 400 top-ranking broadcasters, news editors and officials from more than 50 countries in Asia and other regions.
