On June 3, the 11th China International Environmental Protection Exhibition and Conference co-sponsored by 6 ministries including the State Environmental Protection Department, National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Science and Technology was launched at the Beijing International Exhibition Center.

This 4-day exhibition has attracted more than 600 enterprises from 18 countries and regions including France, the US, Germany, Japan, Korea and China. In the six exhibition halls of nearly 30,000 square meters, there not only accommodated pollution prevention and control technology aiming to improve the atmosphere, but also provided energy-saving and new energy technology products enabling audiences to experience a green life created by environmental science and technology.

New environmental protection technology

On one side was industrial waste water; the other side was clean water ensuring a good environment for fish to swim. In pavilion No. 1, an environmental protection project company from Jiangxi introduced a new water purification technology. Purified water can fully meet standards by filtrating through two water tanks, three groups, a reverse osmosis membrane and several water pipes.

An emergency monitoring car used in Wenchuan earthquake last year aroused audiences' attention. Many people entered the car to watch its operation, and listen to the person in charge of the project talking about how this car helped to monitor water quality and atmospheric environment in the earthquake last year.

Pavilion No. 1 at the environmental protection exhibition hall displayed China's latest environmental technology products, which represent the highest level of China's environmental protection industry.

"Looking for a new type of environmentally friendly product is my main purpose of this trip." Mr. Ho, the owner of a village and township enterprise from Henan Province who took a taxi rushing to the environmental exhibition with his baggage. A new type of equipment producing alternative fuel to replace coal caught Mr. He's attention. It can transform farm waste such as straw and rice stalk into substitutions for coal fuel through the process of milling and compressing. The price of this new energy substitution is 500-600 yuan per ton. It can be transformed into a non-toxic powder after burning, and being use as an organic fertilizer.

Mr. Ming, chairman of Wangrong Science and Technology Co. Ltd from Hunan province said, "With the implementation of relevant national policy regulations as well as the strengthening of public awareness of environmental protection, demand of environmental protection equipment continued to increase and we expect a prosperous future for the environmental protection market."

Foreign businessmen contend for share of Chinese environmental protection market

Xie, Hanhua, Marketing Director of Singapore Aihua Instrument Co. Ltd introduced a newly developed technology at this environment protection expo —— "water monitor". Put tiger fish into a box equipped with instruments and observe the fish in the water. Something abnormal happened on the fish, its body would be surrounded with red lights and the machine would make an alarm, which means contaminants may enter the water.

"The price of this product will not be too high and it is very practical." Xie, Hanhua said, "This technology is wide spread in some western countries and I believe that it would have a huge market potential in China."

Italy's environmental products and environmental technology occupied most of the area at pavilion No. 2. Over the past 10 years, Italian Environmental, Territorial and Marine Ministry and China's State Environmental Protection Department launched a joint cooperation program and have developed 82 projects so far, including environmental monitoring and management, sustainable agriculture and the protection of biodiversity, natural resources preservation and so on. At this exhibition, Italy also introduced newly invented new energy cars and a new type of environmentally friendly pavilion which can be seen at the Shanghai World Expo next year, further enhancing communication with Chinese environmental protection enterprises.

Technical support for energy-saving and emission reduction

In order to promote the development of the environmental protection industry, while there has been the session of environmental protection exhibition, there will also be the environmental protection industry report meeting, fine chemicals, diesel emission control, noise and vibration control industry technology seminars, the Sino-South Korea joint seminar on the results of research projects, promotion conference of advanced technology, technology exchange fair for domestic and foreign enterprises and so on.

Among them, the 2009 environmental protection industry report meeting invited principals of relevant departments to explain the construction of an environmental technology management system and development of environmental protection industry from the aspects of policy, funding, planning and market. On the technology special conference, experts will address problems as municipal wastewater treatment, industrial wastewater reuse, solid waste incineration and energy-saving emission reduction, automobile exhaust treatment and so on.

Han Wei, vice president of China Environmental Protection Industry Association expressed that China environmental protection industry is still in the stage of the end comprehensive treatment, while foreign environmental industries are mainly focus on large-scale integrated project development and comprehensive management of environmental projects. He hoped that China could narrow the gap with the advanced international environmental protection level, developing strong technical support for the "energy-saving and emission reduction" target.
