The two leaders are meeting on the sidelines of the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which will discuss how to tackle the international financial crisis and expand cooperation in political, economic, security and other areas among member states.

China and Kyrgyzstan have seen their political mutual trust deepened and practical cooperation carried out in a comprehensive manner since the establishment of diplomatic ties 17 years ago.
