China's 2000 think tanks are more than the 1,777 in the US, according to the latest statistics.

The Development Research Center of the State Council, the Chinese Academy of Social Science and research institutes under universities, ministries and commissions have formed an advanced think tank system in China. These think tanks fully play their role, propose ideas and offer advice when the government formulates important national policies, or resolves issues concerning people's livelihood.

In addition to the central government's official think tanks, there are also many active civil think tanks in society, which are mainly composed of intellectuals. With direct contact with the reality, these think tanks research social problems and offer important advice to government.
