China and Brazil have maintained close exchanges and cooperation between their legislatures, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said Thursday.

Liu Yunshan, member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and head of the CPC Central Committee Publicity Department, made the remarks when meeting with Brazil's Senate President Jose Sarney and Michel Temer, president of the Chamber of Deputies.

China's National People's Congress (NPC) has exchanged its experience with Brazil's congress in democratic legal system and governance, which in turn boosted bilateral relations, Liu said.

China is willing to make joint efforts with Brazil to deepen their mutually-beneficial cooperation in various fields and push forward the nation's strategic partnership on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, he added.

Sarney said Brazil-China relations have made headway in recent years with the promotion of the two countries' leaders, adding that Brazil appreciated the measures taken by the Chinese government to deal with the global financial crisis.

The Brazilian congressmen have supported the development of relations with China, and the panels in the Brazilian congress have conducted friendly cooperation with the NPC, said Temer.

When meeting with President of the Workers' Party Ricardo Berzoini, Liu said the friendly cooperation between their two parties is of great importance in developing Sino-Brazilian relations.

Liu arrived here Wednesday after concluding a goodwill visit to Chile. Brazil is the second leg of his four-nation tour, which will also take him to Peru as well as Antigua and Barbuda.
