Visiting Pakistani Senate Chairman Farooq Naek said at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday that China is a "friend in need."

By quoting the famous saying, "A friend in need is a friend indeed," Naek reiterated the true friendship between Pakistan and China and his country's adherence to the one-China policy, adding that Pakistan was resolutely opposed to terrorism in any form, and was ready to cooperate with China to safeguard regional peace and stability.

Naek emphasized the communication of younger generations from both countries. "China is far ahead of Pakistan in development," he said, "as friends, young people from Pakistan and China should learn from each other."

Visits to China are "very encouraging" because "Pakistan youngsters should see China with their own eyes" in order to learn from China. "As friends, Pakistan and China should help each other."

He said Pakistan was grateful for China's assistance over the years. "Chairman Mao laid a good foundation for bilateral friendship and cooperation," Naek said, adding that Pakistan was ready to work to further explore cooperation and consolidate bilateral ties.

In the past 30 years of reform and opening-up, "the Chinese leadership are very wise and Chinese people are very hardworking," Naek said, "China has made great achievements, I am proud of the development of China because I feel that the Chinese are our brothers and our friends." He hopes Pakistan could learn from Chinese experiences on development.

Looking into future, Naek believes the 2010 Shanghai Expo will be a complete success. "I sincerely congratulate the coming 60th founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China," he added.
