Chinese President Hu Jintao sent a message on Wednesday to congratulate Kurmanbek Bakiyev on his re-election as president of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The political situation in Kyrgyzstan has remained stable in recent years, with the national economy growing, the people's livelihood keeping improving, and external exchanges increasing day by day, Hu said.

"As a friendly neighbor and sincere friend, we are delighted with the achievements made by the Kyrgyz people in building their country," Hu said.

Ever since China and Kyrgyzstan established diplomatic relations 17 years ago, the bilateral ties have been in sound and smooth development, he said.

The two sides have conducted fruitful cooperation in politics, economy and trade, human science, security and other fields, and yielded remarkable results, the president said.

The two sides regularly coordinate and cooperate closely with each other within the framework of the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as well as other multilateral frameworks, contributing to the maintenance and promotion of peace, stability and development in the region as well the world at large, he said.

Hu said China attaches great importance to its relations with Kyrgyzstan, adding that China respects the development path chosen by the Kyrgyz people themselves and support their efforts to safeguard the independence, sovereignty, security and stability of their country as well as to push forward its economic and social development.

"Within your new term, I would like to make joint efforts with you to steadily push forward the Sino-Kyrgyz relations of good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation to a new high," Hu said.
