Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei summoned the Japanese ambassador to China Yuji Miyamoto Wednesday, and lodged a solemn representation to the Japanese government on its allowing Rebiya Kadeer, leader of the separatist World Uygur Congress (WUC), to visit Japan.

Wu expressed China's strong dissatisfaction to the Japanese government for allowing the visit, and demanded it immediately take effective steps to prevent Kadeer from engaging in anti-China separatist activities, the ministry said.

The Japanese government recently granted a visa to Kadeer. The WUC led by Kadeer is believed to have masterminded the July 5 Xinjiang riots that left at least 197 people dead and 1,600 others injured.
