Yang Weiguo, head of the Office of China in Palestinian territories met with Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Monday in the West Bank city of Ramallah to convey a congratulatory letter from Chinese President Hu Jintao for Abbas' re-election as chief of the Palestinian Fatah movement.

Abbas expressed his sincere appreciation for the Chinese president's congratulation. The PNA chairman highly praised the friendly relationship between the two peoples and the friendly relationship between Fatah and the Chinese Communist Party. Abbas expressed his hope that the two sides will make joint efforts to consolidate and develop the relationship in the future.

Abbas also briefed the Chinese representative on Fatah's sixth general conference, as well as regional situation.

Fatah's sixth general conference was held in the West Bank city of Bethlehem earlier this month. Some 2,000 delegates approved at the conference that Abbas will continue leading the Palestinian main-stream faction.
