Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong met Henry Tzu-Yow Yang, chancellor of the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Jean-Lou Chameau, president of California Institute of Technology, in Beijing Thursday.

Liu said she hoped institutions of higher education and scientific research in China and the United States could cooperate in a more in-depth way on fostering talent and conducting scientific research.

She also hoped cooperation in education would promote bilateral humanistic exchanges and cooperation as well as the long-term and stable development of bilateral ties.

Yang and Chameau are visiting China at the invitation of China's Ministry of Education.
