China's Public Security Minister Meng Jianzhu met with Nepali Minister of Foreign Affairs Sujata Koirala in Beijing Thursday, vowing to strengthen cooperation on border security.

Meng, also a State Councillor, said China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) and Nepal's Ministry of Home Affairs had maintained good cooperative relations.

With collaboration and mutual support, the two ministries had effectively safeguarded the border security and the stability of both nation's domestic social order, Meng said.

China is ready to work with Nepal to view the China-Nepal law-enforcing cooperation from a strategic and long-term perspective, and further consolidate the friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation, Meng said.

Koirala said the Nepali government attached great importance to the Sino-Nepali good-neighborly partnership.

She pledged that the Nepali government would tighten security measures on checkpoints along the borders to prevent illegal entries.

Earlier Thursday, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with Koirala.

Yang said the Sino-Nepali relationship had always developed in a healthy and smooth way since the establishment of diplomatic ties 54 years ago, serving as a model for relationship between a big country and a smaller one which is marked by equality, friendly coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation.

The Chinese government appreciates Nepal's firm support for the Chinese government's stance on Tibet-related issues and will join hands with Nepal to deepen pragmatic cooperation and to enrich the bilateral good-neighborly partnership, so as to benefit the two peoples, Yang said.

Koirala said Nepal and China were traditional friendly neighbors. Nepal appreciated China's long-standing support for Nepal's economic and social development and was ready to work with China to advance bilateral ties.

Reiterating the Nepali government's stance on the one-China policy, Koirala said Nepal would not allow any forces to use its territory for anti-China separatist activities.

Koirala's visit is part of the preparation for an official China visit of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal in October.
