China's Xinhua News Agency President Li Congjun on Thursday said media organizations would gain from the World Media Summit.

Li made the remarks while meeting with Associated Press (AP) President & CEO Tom Curley, who is in Beijing for the media event scheduled on Oct. 8-10.

The media event, launched by Xinhua and eight other renowned media organizations including AP, attracts representatives from more than 170 media organizations worldwide.

With the digital and multi-media development, the media organizations will sit together to discuss how the wire services tackle the new challenges through the first media summit, said Li.

"To achieve further development, the news organizations can not operate on their own, but should work in coordination," said Li, adding that Xinhua and AP, both as influential media, should carryout further cooperation in the future.

Curley hoped AP can enhance cooperation with Xinhua in various levels, especially sharing technology in terms of IPR protection.

Curley said he is expecting to exchange views with other media organizations in bid to deal with new challenges.
