China,Russia pledge to enhance cultural and humanities cooperation

China and Russia will work to promote bilateral cultural and humanities cooperation to a new high, senior Chinese and Russian officials said here Saturday.

At the 10th meeting of a China-Russia committee on humanities cooperation, Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong hailed the irreplaceable role of cultural and humanities cooperation in deepening mutual trust and friendship.

Humanities and economic cooperation was indispensable in bilateral relations, Liu said.

"China has put cultural and humanities cooperation in its national diplomatic strategy," Liu said, "cooperation in this field was also included in the regular premier meetings mechanism between the two countries."

"China is willing to work with Russia to deepen and enrich cooperation in various fields to create a new situation in bilateral cultural and humanities cooperation," Liu said.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov congratulated on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the establishment of China-Russia diplomatic ties.

He also hailed the fast development of cultural and humanities cooperation between the two sides, including the holding of national theme years, which had greatly promoted understanding and friendship between the two countries.
