Chinese province, Vietnamese chamber hold business forum in Vietnam

A business forum to strengthen trade ties between the China's Guangdong province and Vietnam was held in Hanoi on Tuesday.

The forum was organized by the China's Guangdong province in coordination with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The event drew participation of about 900 Vietnamese and Guangdong business agencies and companies.

Vu Tien Loc, chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the forum ushers a new stage in trade cooperation between Chinese Guangdong and Vietnam. Vietnamese businesses expect to boost exports of seafood, industrial products and agricultural products to Chinese Guangdong.

Pham Gia Khiem, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam said that the forum created more opportunities for Chinese Guangdong and Vietnamese businessmen to discuss measures to deepen cooperation in a wide range of fields, especially in trade and investment, education, culture and tourism. Thus, the forum would help strengthen the all-round cooperation between the Guangdong province of China and Vietnam.

Huang Huahua, governor of south China's Guangdong province who led a business delegation to visit Vietnam, said that Guangdong province has advantages in producing household appliances, electronics, toys, food, chemical products and machinery. The Chinese Guangdong province welcomed Vietnamese businesses who want to form partnership with Guangdong businesses for trading such products.

At the forum, Huang Huahua called on intensifying cooperation in areas of trade and investment, tourism, and agriculture. To that aim, Huang proposed building a cooperation mechanism on trade and investment between Guangdong province and Vietnam and establishment of information exchange mechanism on trade policies for businesses of the two sides.

The forum witnessed the signing ceremony of 24 contracts valued at 723 million U.S. dollars between companies of two sides. The contracts are of garment, electronic products and computers, equipments, steel, fashion, footwear, coal and thermo power plant.

Despite the global economic downturn, the two-way trade between the south China's Guangdong province and Vietnam in the first eight months this year went up 25.6 percent year-on-year to 2.67 billion U.S. dollars, according to a press release of the forum.
