The three-day World Media Summit provided a good opportunity for world media organizations to exchange views on shared issues, said a director of Brazil's Folha group on Monday.
The world media groups are practically confronted with the same challenges, said Cristina Frias in an interview with Xinhua.
The media summit has offered a perfect chance for them to discuss ways to tackle those challenges, said Frias.
The summiteers shared their experience and perspectives on future challenges, and discussed possible trends for media development and what makes a qualified journalist in facing future challenges, she said.
They have agreed that media houses have to increase the diversification of their media platform to survive, said Frias.
Frias said she was impressed by Chinese President Hu Jintao's speech at the summit, which she said showed the great importance the Chinese government had been attaching to world media.
Established in 1921, the Portuguese language newspaper Folha deSao Paulo under the Folha group has been Brazil's largest in circulation.
The World Media Summit, launched by Xinhua and eight other major media organizations, was held in Beijing on Oct. 8-10 and attended by about 300 representatives from more than 170 media outlets across the world.
Chinese President Hu Jintao delivered a keynote speech at the summit, calling on world media organizations to promote "true, correct, comprehensive and objective communication of information."
With the media's growing influence, "it is more important than ever before that the media should establish and uphold social responsibilities," he said.
