China's ethnic policy is "effective and correct," said an article published Thursday on the official Rodong Sinmun daily of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
The article, entitled Equality, Solidarity and Development of All Nationalities, noted that a total of 56 pillars, representing China's 56 ethnic groups, were installed on Tian'anmen Square in Beijing for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
The Chinese government has adopted an ethnic policy aimed at achieving ethnic equality and solidarity, regional autonomy of ethnic minorities, and common development of all ethnic groups, the article said.
The political rights of all Chinese ethnic groups are secured legally, and a series of development plans and preferential policies have been carried out to boost economic development in the areas mainly inhabited by the ethnic minority groups, it said.
The Chinese government has also taken measures to stop any separatist activities that will undermine ethnic unity, and opposed any attempts from foreign countries that try to interfere in China's internal affairs under the pretext of protecting ethnic minorities, religions and human rights, it added.
