Thirty-six crew members were trapped as an Iranian-registered cargo ship ran aground Sunday morning off east China's coast, a local maritime official said.
The ship got stranded at 5:25 a.m. at the estuary of the Yangtze River. One rescue ship and two helicopters have been sent to the area by Donghai Rescue Bureau affiliated to China's Ministry of Transport.
Thirteen sailors had been rescued as of 8:22 a.m., an official with the bureau said.
He said the ship was at the risk of capsizing since there were strong winds and billowy waves in the area.
