Mariano Turzi, a China expert at Argentina's Torcuato Di Tella University and U.S. Johns Hopkins University, pointed out China's growing clout in international affairs on Wednesday. China's increasing importance on the world stage was demonstrated by its growing presence in Latin America and Africa.

The financial crisis, which broke out in 2008, marked a structural change in world power, making the economic and world political pendulum swing East, Turzi observed.

Since China entered the World Trade Organization, China had actively participated in world affairs. For instance, China attached much more importance to bilateral relations with Latin America and Africa.

Recently, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao announced eight new measures to aid the African countries.

"China's performance is more effective than any announced aid package by the United States or Europe in the past years for the continent," Turzi said.

China also manifested its power in dealing with domestic issues, the expert said, adding that during the past 30 years, China had brought millions of people out of poverty.
