U.S. President Barack Obama said in Shanghai Monday that the United States would further expand its youth exchanges with China by expanding the number of students studying here to 100,000.

Obama said during a dialogue with Chinese students in the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum that young people are the best ambassadors and that cooperation between the countries should go beyond the governments.

Obama delivered a speech before taking questions from students at the site and questions from the Internet.

He arrived in Shanghai Sunday night and met with Shanghai municipal officials Monday morning. He is to leave for Beijing in the afternoon. This is his first visit to China since taking office.
