The Education Ministry there found new schools for about twelve hundred Chinese students, stuck in the country after four schools closed earlier this month. The Chinese consulate general in Melbourne, established contacts with Australian authorities to ensure the students educational needs are well taken care of.
Australian education authorities transferred 180 students from the closed Meridian International School to two state-run schools. The students will study there until the end of the semester. In December, at the conclusion of the term, students have the option to stay or transfer to another school.
A transferred student of Australia said, "I'm happy about the settlement. I heard we are about to go to better schools."
Before the arrangement, local authorities gave the students 28-days to transfer to another school and renew their visas.
Australian schools enrolled more than 141,000 Chinese students from January to September, making China the largest international student presence in Australia.
