The 3rd China-Latin America Business Summit was inaugurated Wednesday in Bogota, with over 700 entrepreneurs from China and Latin America participating in the two-day meeting.
The meeting, which aims to promote and stimulate the development of exports of goods and services, is an initiative proposed by the Colombian government.
The initiative will provide a win-win situation for Colombian exporters and international buyers to get ahead of their competitors by finding new business opportunities and establishing trade partnerships.
Abdul'ahat Abdulrixit, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said that China and Latin American countries are developing countries and important trade partners. China's broad market would continue to provide good opportunities for those Latin American enterprises which invest in China.
He suggested that both sides increase dialogue, enhance mutual trust and promote pragmatic cooperation. Thus, the economies of both sides would maintain a sustainable and healthy development.
Meanwhile, he said, it was necessary to facilitate trade and resolve frictions through negotiations. Both sides should explore their potentials and share successful experiences by creating a forum for small and medium-sized enterprises, he added.
During the inauguration, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe said that Colombia enjoys stable policies and a fair and equal investing environment.
Noting that the Colombian government had been implementing an encouraging tax policy and bonded area policy, he said Colombia was eager to strengthen its cooperation with China and expected the investment from China to develop the infrastructure construction in Colombia.
Yu Ping, vice chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), said during the inauguration that the cooperation between China and Latin America had developed fast in the past three years, thanks to the fruitful communicating activities of economy and trade launched by the organs for the promotion of international trade from both sides.
The entrepreneurs will discuss free-trade promotion and give advice in dealing with the world economic crisis. Meanwhile, roundtable meetings about banking and real estate and some state exhibitions will also be held.
The meeting was held in Chile for the first time in 2007 and then in Harbin, China, in 2008.
