Public security ministers from China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Wednesday agreed to enhance cooperation between their ministries.

"We hope the two ministries will increase communication and coordination and promote exchanges and cooperation to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability," Meng Jianzhu, China's State Councilor and Public Security Minister, said in a meeting with DPRK Minister of People's Security Ju Sang Song.

Hailing the traditional China-DPRK friendship founded by past generations of leaders, Meng said the friendship had withstood the test of history.

The friendship was a precious treasure for the two peoples, who had always understood and helped each other since diplomatic links were established 60 years ago, he said.

The friendly cooperation between the two ministries, as an important part of the China-DPRK relationship, was conducive to safeguarding their national stability and border security, Meng said.

It also contributed to cementing and promoting the traditional friendship between the two peoples, he said.

Ju said the DPRK valued friendly ties with China's Public Security Ministry, and was ready to work with it to further expand friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation.

Ju is visiting China from Dec. 15 to 19.
