Chinese national shot dead in southern Philippines

Gunmen shot dead on Sunday night a Chinese national in the southern Philippines, local police said.

The victim, Shu Zongyang, a businessman, was on his way home along with companion Ang Yang, when five armed robbers attacked them in the southern city of Cagayan de Oro, police investigator Officer 2 Joel Gacosta said Monday.

The victim's companion was injured.

The Chinese Consulate General in Cebu said his office is still verifying the identity of the victim.
