Chinese in Portugal donated for the storm-hit Portuguese Atlantic island of Madeira at a spring festival gala Sunday night.
The Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Portugal said the night gala raised a total of 9,845 euros (13,290 U.S. dollars) for Madeira.
At least 39 people were killed and more than 60 others injured when floods and mudslides, caused by a storm, hit the Portuguese island on Feb. 20. The disaster has also made more than 600 people homeless.
Madeira is the largest island in the archipelago with the same name. It has a population of 265,000.
Local Portuguese media described the Madeira storm as the deadliest since October 1993 when eight people were killed.
