Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH) on Friday staged performances under the theme of Chinese language day.

Dozens of students from the RSUH Institute for Linguistics who specialize in Chinese showcased their language skills with programs including a small chorus of the song Beijing Welcomes You, reciting of the ancient Chinese poem Spring Morning, performing Chinese calligraphy and short play.

Alina, a senior student from the university who once studied for one year at China's Liaoning Normal University, told Xinhua that she had a nice Chinese name called "Lili."

Alina said she liked Chinese calligraphy and China very much, and hoped that the friendship between China and Russia could continue to develop.

Speaking of the Chinese language year in Russia this year, she said such events could provide Russian students opportunities to study in China and communicate with Chinese people, which are certainly beneficial for their learning of the language.

China and Russia decided to hold the "Year of Russian Language" in China in 2009 and the "Year of Chinese Language" in Russia in 2010.
