Chinese State Councillor Dai Bingguo met with former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in Beijing Monday, the Foreign Ministry announced in a press release Tuesday.
According to the release, Dai and Kissinger exchanged views on Sino-U.S. relations and issues of common concern.
Kissinger came to China on the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs.
He also met with Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang Monday.
During a speech earlier Monday, Kissinger expressed his optimism for the development of China-U.S. ties despite difficulties.
Past frictions between the two countries had always been properly handled, said Kissinger, who served as the top U.S. diplomat during the presidencies of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford in 1970s.
