Direct tourist charter flights from Shanghai to Pyongyang will be officially launched on August 6 and the first batch of tourists will fly to Pyongyang on Koryo Air, China News Services reported on Friday.
Experts noted the launch of direct tourist charter flights will help to further promote cooperation and exchanges between China and North Korea in trade, tourism and culture.
Since this year marks the 60th anniversary of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, many old Chinese veterans who participated in the war and their family members are keen to go to North Korea. In addition, the annual Arirang Festival, which is to be held from August to October, will also attract many tourists.
North Korea became a new destination for Chinese outbound tourist travel on April 12.
