Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met Friday with Togo President Faure Gnassingbe in Shanghai and vowed to bolster trade and economic cooperation with the west African state.
Yang appreciated Togo's adherence to the one-China policy, saying China would work with Togo to strengthen political mutual trust, enhance coordination on international affairs and support each other on issues concerning their core interests.
China would also step up cooperation with African countries under the framework of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum, Yang said.
Calling China a "good friend," Gnassingbe thanked China for its long-term assistance, saying his country would boost cooperation with China in trade, infrastructure construction, agriculture and healthcare.
Togo would also enhance cooperation with China within the China-Africa Cooperation Forum and on major world affairs, he said.
