China calls for concerted efforts to restart six-party talks: FM spokeswoman

China Thursday called on all relevant parties to make joint efforts to negotiate and discuss the problems of the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told a regular press conference China has always advocated the resolution of international disputes through dialogue and negotiation.

She said the situation on the Korean Peninsula is "sensitive and complicated," expressing the hope that all relevant parties remain calm and exercise restraint.

She said the maintenance of peace and stability on the peninsula and the eventual denuclearization of the peninsula is the common interest of all parties.

The six-party talks is a good platform to realize these goals, she added.

"All parties should strengthen communication and make concerted efforts to make favorable conditions for restarting the six-party talks," she said.

Wu Dawei, special representative for Korean Peninsula affairs, is now visiting the United States. Previously, Wu visited the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Republic of Korea and Japan. Wu will visit Russia after he completes the U.S. leg of his trip.

The main aim of Wu's visits is to communicate with all parties on relevant issues to enable a restart of the six-party talks, Jiang said.

The six-party talks on the DPRK nuclear issue involves China, the United States, the Republic of Korea, the DPRK, Japan and Russia. It was launched in 2003 but has been stalled since April 2009.
