Chinese share prices closed higher on Thursday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gaining 1.44 percent, or 75.54 points, to close at 5,308.89.

The index rebounded Wednesday after retreating modestly in the previous day.

The Shenzhen Component Index on the smaller Shenzhen Stock Exchange ended at 17,797.22 points, up 369.45 points, or 2.12 percent.

The Hushen 300 Index, which accounts for 60 percent of the nation's stock market value, rose 1.95 percent, to 5,367.53.
