The conference on the electricity production and management of the China Yangtze River Three Gorges Project Development Corporation recently revealed that twenty-six 700,000-kilowatt generators of the Three Gorges Project will be completely installed and ready for operation by the end of this year – one year ahead of schedule.
The Three Gorges Project will install thirty-two 700,000-kilowatt more generators with a total installed capacity of 22.4 million kilowatts, including the 14 units at the Left Bank Power Station, 12 at the Right Bank Power Station, and 6 in the underground power station. According to the initial plans for the Three Gorges Project, twenty-six generators were to be built.
After approval by the State Council Three Gorges Project Construction Committee, the underground power station was allowed to begin construction, which has currently entered the earth and rock excavation and the concrete-pouring stage. Since July 2003, when the first generator went into operation, in four and a half years the Three Gorges Project has installed twenty-one electricity generators.
