The booming economy in Macao has presented opportunities for British companies in "almost every sector", said Stephen Bradley, British consul-general to Hong Kongand Macao, on Thursday.
Bradley made the remark when attending the celebrations to mark the opening of official office of the British Business Association of Macao (BBAM), which acted as a conduit between government and business in both China's Macao special administrative region (SAR)and the United Kingdom (UK).
Boosted by its ever growing gaming-led economy, Macao has witnessed a number of mega casino resorts, like the Venetian Macao and MGM Grand Macao, sprang up in 2007, which helped shape the city into a Las Vegas-style gaming and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibition) hub.
"You saw the opening of the Venetian in August, you then had the opening of the MGM Grand Macao, and now best but least expensive of all, the opening of the BBAM office," he said in his speech.
Established in 2006, BBAM was responsible for promoting and representing British business interests in the Macao SAR.
In 2006, UK's exports to Macao grew by 21 percent and with the establishment of the BBAM office many more potential British exporters to Macao will be able to make use of the support and resources offered by the association, said the consul-general.
Meanwhile, the office will also provide information to Macao locals who wish to seek business opportunities in the UK in due course, according to a press release from the BBAM. Source: Xinhua
