According to the evaluation of the comprehensive economic competitiveness among China's 31 provincial-level administrative regions, Shanghai, Beijing and Guangdong were reelected as the top three in 2006.
China's Overall Economic Competitiveness Research Center released the results on Monday.
In 2006, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Tianjin, Liaoning, Fujian and Hebei were ranked the top ten, in that order.
Henan, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Hunan, Shanxi, Anhui, Hubei, Sichuan, Jilin and Jiangxi were ranked in the middle.
Meanwhile, Shaan'xi, Xinjiang, Chongqing, Guangxi, Hainan, Qinghai, Ningxia, Yunnan, Gansu, Guizhou and Tibet were ranked at the bottom.
Compared with 2005, Central China's comprehensive competitiveness has increased: Anhui province climbed five places; and Hubei and Henan provinces ascended four and two places respectively.
The evaluation also demonstrates that the difference in the average comprehensive competitiveness between Central and Eastern China has narrowed by 0.04 percentage points.
