The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters reported that as of March 26, 291 million mu of cultivated land has been affected by this year's drought. This is the most serious drought in the last 5 years; and has affected 70 million mu more than the same period in past years. The drought affected regions mainly in Northeast and North China; and most parts of the Northwest.

Zhang Zhitong, standing deputy director of the office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, stated that 3.9 million laborers have been recruited to fight the drought in the winter wheat region in North China; and 22.54 million mu of affected cultivated land has been irrigated.
