Paulson visit
US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson will kick off a two-day visit to China today to meet with the newly elected leadership and discuss a broad range of economic and other issues concerning bilateral relations.
President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao will meet the US official and Vice-Premier Wang Qishan will hold a discussion with him, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Airport branches out
Wu Nianzu, chairman of the Shanghai Airport Authority, said yesterday the airport will strive to develop non-aviation business in the next few years. "Our goal is to largely increase the revenue of non-aviation business from the current 30 percent to 50 percent," said Wu. Non-aviation businesses include advertising and retail at the airport.
Qingdao plant
SAIC-GM-Wuling, GM's mini-vehicle joint venture based in the southern city of Liuzhou, yesterday began production at its second vehicle manufacturing facility in the coastal city of Qingdao. Its initial product is a new 1.2-liter mini-commercial vehicle. The plant has a production capacity of 300,000 units a year. Last year, the joint venture sold 552,788 vehicles, grabbing 43 percent of China's mini-vehicle market.
Sales target
Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group Co Ltd is aiming to sell over 1 million vehicles and to rake in sales revenue of over 200 billion yuan by 2010, said Zhang Fangyou, chairman of the group company, at a ceremony celebrating the company's 10th anniversary yesterday. The firm will redouble R&D efforts and manufacture its own-brand products ranging from engines and gear-change mechanisms to vehicles.
