Sanya tourism industry seeks foreign language professionals

Recently, more than 50 employers have gone to the Sanya City professional exchange market in Hainan Province to recruit staff. Many are from the tourism industry including hotels, scenic spots, and travel agencies; and require employment candidates to have foreign language abilities, according to Xinhua Net.

In 2007, Sanya received 522,000 international tourists, an increase of 34.3 percent. Income from tourism foreign exchange broke 240 million US dollars, an increase of 43 percent, and ranks among the major destination for inbound tourism.

In order to provide international tourists with comprehensive, accurate information and high quality services, travel agents are not the only one who need foreign language tour guides. Hotel service personnel need foreign language skills; and foreign languages shopping guides are also needed in shopping malls. Along with the accelerated international tourism industry in Sanya, masses of foreign tourists have arrived. The tourism industry has an increasing demand for foreign language professionals; and foreign language skills are becoming more popular.
