By the end of 2007, Chinese enterprises' direct investment abroad (non-financial) totaled 92.05 billion US dollars, according to a statement by Zhang Wei, vice president of the China International Trade Promotion Committee on the 16th. To promote domestic enterprises' investment abroad, China International Trade Promotion Committee formulated and implemented a program to promote Chinese enterprises' "going global."
Since 1998, when the central government had proposed a global strategy, China's enterprises have been "going global" at an accelerated pace, said Zhang Wei at the press conference of the Second Chinese Enterprises Outbound Investment Conference. Domestic enterprises, especially some strong private enterprises show much enthusiasm for developing overseas investment. They hope to actively participate in international competition; make full use of domestic and international resources; and develop the international and domestic markets.
