According to a survey report on the global business environment from the "Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)," among the 82 participating counties and regions, Hong Kong ranks seventh, with the same ranking and score it had 5 years ago. The report also shows that 3 Asian countries and regions are among the top 20 best global business environments.
According to media reports, the EIU survey shows that Denmark tops the list of best investment environments for the years 2008 to 2012, with a score of 8.76; and is promoted one rank higher than in the 2003-2007 survey, followed by Finland (second) and Singapore (third).
Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan are the 3 Asian regions among the top 20. Compared with 5 years ago, Singapore dropped from first place to third; Hong Kong's rank remains unchanged; Taiwan has been promoted from 22nd to 18th. Countries and regions from Europe and the U.S. are still the majority among the top 20 of the world's best business investment environments. Canada, Switzerland and Australia rank fourth, fifth and sixth respectively. The United States dropped suddenly from fifth to tenth as a result of the recent mortgage crisis; while the United Kingdom also fell from tenth to twelfth.
The report from the"Economist Intelligence Unit(EIU)"said that the main reasons that Denmark was named the world's best business environment for the first time includes: enterprise development supported policies; and labor market flexibility improved reforms as well as sound and robust financial policies.
The(EIU) evaluates regional investment environments every 5 years according to relevant regional policies and projects such as politics, tax policies, macro-economic stability, policies around the private sector, foreign investment policy, finance, foreign exchange controls and infrastructure. A full mark is 10. The 2008-2012 world's best investment environment survey was conducted in mid-March this year.
