CCTV has been granted exclusive rights to broadcast the Olympic Games on net and mobile phones. Provincial television channels in the Chinese mainland having the rights to broadcast Beijing Olympic Games are not allowed to use television signals on the Internet and mobile communication platforms of their own to cover the Olympic events, which was released at the "Olympics New Media Copyright Protection Forum" held in Beijing on the 6th, according to Xinhua Net.

Beijing 2008 Olympic Games is the first attempt for the International Olympic Committee to sell copyrights of TV and new media separately. Hu Zhanfan, Deputy Secretary of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and Deputy Director of CCTV said at the forum.

After winning the TV coverage rights, CCTV also purchased the new media broadcasting rights from International Olympic Committee, and it now has the exclusive audio broadcast rights to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on the Internet and mobile platforms in the Chinese mainland and Macao.

People.com, Xinhua Net, Sohu and other companies and organizations jointly signed the " Beijing Declaration of Olympics New Media Copyright Protection " at the forum.
