Trade between China and the EU has kept rising significantly and benefited for all. That outweighs any debates on statistics about the bilateral trade surplus or deficit.
Mr. Yu Yuantang, director in charge of the EU and Benelux affairs of the Ministry of Commerce of China, commented that in a video interview with People's Daily last Friday, a few days after the China-EU High Level Economic and Trade Dialogue was held in Beijing on April 25.
European investors play an important role and gain a lot in China's foreign trade and domestic market. They made some 43 billion USD worth of exports from China to the EU and 206.6 billion USD sales in China's domestic market in 2006. So far 59 billion USD worth of foreign direct investment in China came from the EU.
European families find their life can be better at a lower cost with Chinese products. A report by the Dutch government shows that imports from China can save 200 euros for each Dutch household every year on average.
Trade between China and EU has been increasing by more than 20 percent annually since 2003. It rose by 27 percent in 2007, the most rapid growth out of all trading partners of China. It went up by 24.7 percent for the first three months of this year.
"When trade expands, we can get more opportunities and give each other more benefits," said Yu.
