From June 1 of this year, airline ticket agencies around the world, including those in China, will stop the sale of paper tickets, according to the Beijing Times.
According to the Air Transport Association (IATA), from 00:00(midnight) on June 1, 2008, ticketing agents around the world will no longer issue BSP paper tickets. This means that in future, passengers can only buy e-tickets from ticket agencies. Although the airlines may still provide paper tickets, the airlines have been one of the main driving forces for e-tickets. With the exception of some unique circumstances, generally they will not provide paper tickets.
IATA regional vice president of North Asia Zhang Baojian revealed that the special circumstances might include tickets for babies and transfer tickets for some foreign airlines. From April 1 of this year, the IATA has stopped issuing paper tickets to ticket agencies; and from June 1, the IATA will stop agencies from issuing BSP paper tickets. He also said that while ticket sales agents may no longer provide paper tickets, this will not affect passenger travel. If passengers do need paper tickets, they can contact the relevant airline through their agents.
