The construction of the Tibet Elikunsha airport, the key construction project of the Tibet Autonomous Region and Civil Aviation Authority in the "11th Five-Year Plan," is going smoothly, as reported by the Tibet business news.

Currently, the groundwork and foundation construction have been completed. Meanwhile, airport road, terminal and surrounding area construction are underway comprehensively.

The Tibet Elikunsha airport is 4,227 m above sea level and has a 4 D flight zone. Its runway, 4,500 m long and 45 meters wide and designed according to A319, B737-300 plateau plane operation standards, is under construction. It will have an annual terminal area throughput of 120,000.

The whole project, expected to be complete in 2010, will be another main air passage to Tibet following the construction of the Lasagongga airport, Bangda airport in Qamdo, and the Nyingchi airport.
